2 Sox/2 Circs Tutorial
There are several good reasons to make both socks at the same time. Here are only a few of them:
If you have Second Sock Syndrome (SSS), you will now finish with both socks and not one lonely sock who will probably be forever without a mate.
Both socks will be more-or-less identical - no worry about a more relaxed tension/gauge on one sock and a tighter one on the other sock, resulting in 2 different sizes!
While the actual knitting time is no shorter than making 2 complete socks, it will seem shorter when you are done.
Any new adventure has a learning curve. To make this curve a little gentler, we will use a sport-weight or DK-weight yarn.
Materials needed:
Needles: 2 circulars size US 3 (3.25 mm) or size required to achieve the gauge
You will want 2 different cable lengths or 2 different color needle tips for this. I prefer a 24" and a 29" length, but that is strictly my preference. If you like working with 16" cables, then perhaps you would want a 16" and a 20" needle. Another option is to use some colorful nail polish on the "joins" of 1 set of circs. OR, if you are using a bamboo circ and a metal circ, they can both be the same length. For those of you who already use the Magic Loop method, you won't find a lot of difference in the technique.
Yarn: 2 (50 g) balls Plymouth Encore DK (If your gauge is looser than that stated, or if you make the foot or leg longer than stated in the directions, you will need a 3rd ball of yarn)
Gauge: 7 sts/in, 9 rows/in
Abbreviations: N = Needle
Sl 1 = sl 1 purlwise
SSK = sl, sl, K 2 sl sts tog
Before moving on to the next page, a word of caution: DO NOT TRY TO READ AHEAD!!
We've all been told to read over a new pattern, but in this case, please do not. It will look too confusing and too overwhelming. Please stick to one picture/one step at a time. ☺
